It's hard to believe June is almost over! This month has been packed to the brim with outside work, a little bit of school, and new life as an intern.

Evan gets home in a week and I can't wait to officially start summer. This means: camping, swimming, s'mores, back porch sitting, sun tea, and so much more. I am sure he is going to feel overwhelmed when he gets home and hears all of the things I have in store for him!

I'm thinking about picking him up from the airport with balloons which is the only way to start the summer off right! haha!

Filling Frames

It gets lonely while Evan is on tour, so I often find little tasks to do so I don't think too hard on it. Tonight I am filling frames that have needed pictures in them for months.  That cutie above is my Grandma Jones who passed away when I was 5.  I only have a couple of memories of her. One of them is that she always had Hens and Chicks growing at her house. That is why we used them in our wedding and I will always have them in our home.

Another memory I have of her is when I helped her find the prize winning egg on Easter.  I spied on my uncles when they hid it and then showed her where it was. Although I don't have a lot of memories of her, I have a huge love for her. I can't explain it. But it's there.

I think one of the reasons, though, is my mom.

My grandma raised 8 kids, including my mom.  She is the best mother anyone could ask for. My mom often tells me stories about my grandma and I know she was a huge role model for my mom when it came time for her to be a mother.

I have some amazing role models when it comes time for me to be a mother.  I still miss Evan, but when I think of these things I stop feeling sorry for myself.

I really am so lucky.

Little bits

There is just something about summer nights. I am sitting on my back porch under giant twinkling lights,  smelling the honeysuckle and watching Elton play. I only have two more weeks of this until I start summer school, but I can guarantee there is going to be a lot of homework done from this very spot.

Here's a little bit of what life has been like via instagram.

Hope everyone had a happy holiday.  Mine was spent planting peonies.  I am so unbelievably thankful for the men and women who serve our country and the huge sacrifices they have made.

Two years ago today I took my best friend's last name in front of our closest friends and family.  I am beyond thankful for that sweet guy I married.

Today he is in Tennessee gearing up for a big tour. Last week, after finals, I took a week off and we celebrated the last two years by planting flowers.

This summer is going to be for greenhouses, summer school and changes.  I was recently offered an amazing opportunity for an internship at a local design firm.  I am excited to jump in and learn everything I can.

*On another note, my thoughts and prayers go out to the Joplin community today.  I am beyond amazed by the courage and love that has been shown.  These girls continue to inspire me with all the hard work and dedication they have for their community.

Cork planter Diy

Over the past few months, Evan has been making changes to his band room/office.  I finally talked him into replacing his bachelor desk with a vintage one from Funtiques.  Now it's on to the rest of the room.  I noticed the other day that he needed some fun accessories for the desk, so I whipped up this office friendly cork planter!

All you need is cork drawer liner, a planter or vase, potting soil, rocks for draining, and a plant of your choice.

First, roll out the amount of cork liner you need to cover your planter.  I added a little bit extra just in case.

After you have cut the amount you need then just remove the backing and slowly roll the planter onto the cork liner.  Repeat the above steps, you want to make it a little thicker so a push pin will go in.

Remove excess material and then trim and tuck the remanding.

Now you are ready to plant!  Make sure and put rocks in the bottom of the planter which allows the water to drain.

Fun and and easy! I like that it brings a little green into the room but also provides a fun way to display reminders or pictures.

Now if only I could talk him into painting the room! He mentioned something the other day about it, so fingers crossed!

Party pup

Evan turned 25 last Saturday.  Sadly he was on tour for his big day, so I racked my brains trying to think of a way to celebrate him from thousands of miles away.  This is what happened:

On Friday night, I stayed home and made party hats for Elton and me.  Who doesn't love a puppy in a party hat?!  I put some records on and took a lot of pictures and then at midnight I sent them Mr. Bovee's way.

And then something amazing happened.

Elton apparently loves birthdays.  And I am no Barbra Streisand.

I can't wait to celebrate in person with Evan when he gets home, but this definitely made his day!  He comes home next weekend and I can't wait. Have the best weekend!

I have been trying a crack at gardening recently and let me tell you, I am the worst.  It doesn't come natural to me.  Plus I tend to over water my plants.  But I am changing my ways! Taking a stab, or shovel at it if you will.

I am nervous. I don't like to be held accountable for killing plants.

So far, I have planted some Ranunculus that have been blooming like crazy.  They are soon becoming my favorite flower.  So pretty!

Last Saturday, Lyndi came over and we planted a bit before it started raining buckets.  I have plans to build a raised rock bed and plant some cutting flowers.  ahhh!
