Nesting Mode

We have been in the new house a week today! I think we are still worn out judging from the 2-3 hour nap we took today. Everything is pretty much unpacked, but nothing is hung up because I need to paint. It's not like the colors in the house are awful, I just want the house to feel more like me. So, this weekend I went with one of my best friends,Lyndi, to get baby paint samples. We also ended up getting ferns, veggies, and succulents because Lowes is amazing. (I remember HATING that store when I was little!)

Let me just say that it's a good idea to paint swatches on your walls. Paint is weird. Paint will not always look like it does on those paper swatches. A lot of elements factor into paint color, like lighting, trim color, and floor color. I painted my samples next to our french doors which are trimmed in white and let a lot of natural light in. That way I can kind of imagine what the whole room will look like.

On a side note, that's another thing that I love about the new house, we have the option of a lot of natural light with our windows or track lights. :)

The colors on the right are the Valspar brand that I got from Lowes.  I liked a couple of colors, but they ended up having too much violet in them, not the manly gray that I want. So I drug Evan to Sherwin-Williams today after our epic nap and picked out two more colors (the two swatches on the left.) I think I've decided on the bottom left which is called "mindful gray" and is actually the line of Hgtv paints that they have. I know that the swatch on the top right looks a lot like it, but in person it has WAY more lavender in it.

Right now I am just waiting for my mom to come home so we can tackle this baby. I am really excited to see everything come together! Until then I guess I just get to enjoy this:

Elton asked us if Casper (my mom's puppy) could stay the night. How can you say no to him?

Mirror, Mirror on the wall

We move on Monday! That went by so fast. These past two weeks have been filled with packing up our lives, getting graduation/transferring in order and working. It is a little bitter sweet, this was our first apartment together as a married couple. I had so much fun making a boring apartment into a fun place to live and call home (which partly influenced me to go to school for interior design :) . BUT I am over the moon with the new place because I have lots of square footage to play with.

Lately I have been on the hunt for cool mirrors to replace those sheets o' glass mirrors that are used up in suburban housing everywhere. And I have discovered this : A. mirrors are expensive B. mirrors that are big enough are hard to find.

I love this one. Like really love it. Not for $325.

Ah man, I am a sucker for etched glass.

I have a mirror almost exactly like this, but I'm not sure it is the right size. I bought mine for $20 compared to this one at $430. Don't you love a sweet deal?

And then I found this image....

The mirror is obviously too small for a bathroom, buttttt my wheels are spinning. I love blogs!

Cutesy

Sorry for my lack of posting this week. Tuesday was spent picking Evan up from the airport and then running errands. On Wednesday we drove to Columbia because there was a show. I explored downtown Columbia while Evan tuned 4,394 guitars. Just kidding, it was like 8, but it seems like 4,394. I picked up a peter pan collar dress (finally!!) and some letter press cards. I also grabbed some bubble tea for me and a smoothie for Evan at this cute tea shop called Lollicup. I had to leave the husby in Columbia because he has a short 1 week tour with the guys. He gets back April 17th and we close April 18th on our house! So ready.

I have been looking at a lot of yard/planting ideas since we have a huge front porch and back porch at the new house. I am for sure going to do this. I mean come on, how cute is this?

The planters are actually made out of gutters. It's cheap and awesome, Im in. Hopefully Saturday I can locate my camera and take some pictures of one of my collections I have been wanting to share. It is a special one :)

Bedroom ideas.

I have been thinking a lot about the new house. I mean a lot. One room I am really excited to decorate is the master bedroom. Evan had a ton of twinkle lights in his old room before we were married. After we were married, I always felt like our bedroom was missing something. Then it dawned on me, I loved how in Evan's old room there were tons of white lanterns and little white lights. It makes it feel way more cozy and almost magical. So I think that is the direction I am going to go with our new bedroom. I want it crisp and white, but whimsical.

I love all the white lanterns in the photo above. In our current bedroom we have white Christmas lights tucked underneath the bed. I love the affect that it has when all the lights are turned off besides those.

So cozy! I love the idea of intertwining the lights with a natural element like twigs.

I like this too, but I couldn't ever do it. The netting is so pretty, but just looking at it makes me feel like I can't breathe.

I LOVE this bedroom. This bedroom seems perfectly balanced. The white sheets and walls make it crisp, while the wood hutch and antlers provide some nice warm undertones so it doesn't feel too impersonal.

I have been on craigslist everyday looking for great deals on furniture. In our new house, the master bedroom has enough room to where we could have a seating area with a couch. There is also a nook that I have a lot of ideas for. That's a different post though! Evan gets home Tuesday with the camera, so I plan on taking some pictures of another one of my collections before I have to pack them up!
