We Can Hide That

Did you like my Portlandia reference I slipped into the title? Ehhh??

A couple of weeks ago, on a whim, I painted a small wall in our house navy.  Since then I've added some shelves and accessorized them a little (which I'm not 100% in love with so they are going to change).

But wait! There's more that meets the eye!

What is it?

Hidden gadgets! Those would actually be our thermostat and door bell. Smack dab in the middle of the wall...  Which is something that has always REALLY bothered me.  Why can't they be hidden? Why does it have to be in the middle of a wall? That messes up my gallery wall plans sir!  Don't you care about that?!

Since then I've gotten a little educated and it's actually a safety/ maintenance/ function factor.  Guys, your contractors are looking out for you and the repairmen.  Not your gallery wall. Sorry.  BUT if you hire an interior designer while you are building your house they will work it out with your contractor.  Because we are annoyingly detail oriented.  We care about your gallery wall!

Back to the navy wall...

I really didn't want to see those appliances.  It just felt like wasted space and I didn't want to just hang art around them.  So I thought the easiest way to disguise their existence was a couple of shelves.

And of course a funky plant. The artwork is vintage or from Etsy.  I especially love the illustration of the guy playing guitar.  It looks exactly like Evan, he even wears a red beanie like that.

On one side is the kitchen and on the other is the bathroom.  It breaks up the space and makes it a little more interesting.

So the shelves are a hit.  Easy fix!  Now when I walk past that little wall I'm not instantly mad at the appliances and I can just focus on rotating the art on my gallery wall. ha!

I found this image via Sf Girl By Bay a couple of days ago on Pinterest and can I just say YES?! This space is completely beautiful. I especially love all of the texture that is happening. It's one of those images you just want to jump into and live in. What has been inspiring you lately?

My dad is coming over today to do some measurements for an idea I had in our kitchen.  It involves some kitchen cabinets and waisted space.  I am excited to see the idea actually come to life with the help of my pops. He's a good one! Have a good Monday!

Weekend Getaway

I have been wanting to go to Crystal Bridges for a long time, so on Saturday we hopped in the car for a little day trip.  We were a little bit confused after Apple Maps routed us down two gravel roads and then proclaimed we had reached our destination which was actually a farm for sale.  But after realizing it was just a glitch (or a hint that we should buy a farm?!) we made it there in one piece. And let me tell you...

So completely beautiful! The printmaking exhibit was my favorite.

Well actually, my very favorite was the architecture.  This girl goes crazy for steel and concrete (I actually was in a concrete class where I poured concrete the whole semester but that's another story...) I love art, but architecture wins my heart every time. I mean the stairs were even beautiful. On top of that, throw in the natural setting and gardens and you are literally surrounded by beauty on all sides.

We are already planning a spring visit to walk the trails and see the gardens in full bloom.  And maybe visit the Native American history museum while we are there...get in touch with my roots?

If you are anywhere close to Crystal Bridges go! You get to see an original Warhol up close, well actually not too close, you've got to stay behind the tape but still... Warhol! You will leave feeling inspired. What a treat for the midwest!

Happy Monday!

Concrete Park

There is a "park" in Springfield that consists of historical pictures and concrete. It's named Founder's Park, so I am thinking that it has something to do with the um founders of our town?? We should've read some of the history, but despite my cheerful outfit it was pretty cold.  Evan didn't bring a jacket so by the time he started wearing mine and posing ridiculous I knew it was time to leave.

Who is ready for warm water and digging in the dirt?!

Lately

This space has gathered a little bit of dust thanks to full days of work and school, but I am officially on Spring Break and boy does it feel good! The weekend was spent cleaning and rearranging my living room.  It is crazy how you can move a couple of pieces around and then suddenly everything feels so different!

I am looking forward to taking it easy this week and enjoying time with my mister who flies home tomorrow! He is going to teach me a thing or two about the new camera he bought for me. I took that picture of Elton on it and have decided I need some (a lot) of practice.  Luckily he knows all about that jazz. What a stud!

Happy Monday guys!
