Did you like my Portlandia reference I slipped into the title? Ehhh??
A couple of weeks ago, on a whim, I painted a small wall in our house navy. Since then I've added some shelves and accessorized them a little (which I'm not 100% in love with so they are going to change).
But wait! There's more that meets the eye!
What is it?
Hidden gadgets! Those would actually be our thermostat and door bell. Smack dab in the middle of the wall... Which is something that has always REALLY bothered me. Why can't they be hidden? Why does it have to be in the middle of a wall? That messes up my gallery wall plans sir! Don't you care about that?!
Since then I've gotten a little educated and it's actually a safety/ maintenance/ function factor. Guys, your contractors are looking out for you and the repairmen. Not your gallery wall. Sorry. BUT if you hire an interior designer while you are building your house they will work it out with your contractor. Because we are annoyingly detail oriented. We care about your gallery wall!
Back to the navy wall...
I really didn't want to see those appliances. It just felt like wasted space and I didn't want to just hang art around them. So I thought the easiest way to disguise their existence was a couple of shelves.
And of course a funky plant. The artwork is vintage or from Etsy. I especially love the illustration of the guy playing guitar. It looks exactly like Evan, he even wears a red beanie like that.
On one side is the kitchen and on the other is the bathroom. It breaks up the space and makes it a little more interesting.
So the shelves are a hit. Easy fix! Now when I walk past that little wall I'm not instantly mad at the appliances and I can just focus on rotating the art on my gallery wall. ha!
