You know that feeling of looking forward to something on the calendar? Counting down the days, feeling the excitement build to where you think you could bust? I feel like this a lot.

I get to see Evan this weekend and I am over the moon.  One thing I love about our marriage is that it always seems new.  We can't really get stuck in the motions because of his job.  When he is home I am always in a hurry to get home to see that guy.  When he is on tour I am counting down the months/weeks/days until he gets home or I get to come out and see him.

Then there are the days where I avoid the calendar because he is leaving.  That calendar is tricky.

Yard stick coat rack diy

Last year on our girls trip to Kentucky I bought a bundle of vintage yard sticks from a sweet little old lady. They sat in my spare room for a good while, until I stumbled upon this image and knew that it was the perfect way to display them.

First, I had my dad cut the right size of wood to glue the yard sticks on.  I then stained the edges so the color would blend.  After the stain dried I glued the yard sticks to the wood base.  Some of them were larger, so they hung off the edge a little bit.  I cut the excess off with a Dremel.  After that, I (with the help of Mr. Bovee) drilled and screwed the hooks (found at Lowes) into place.  Pretty easy!

My favorite thing about it is that each yard stick says a city in Kentucky.  Now when I hang my coat up I will be reminded of some of my most favorite memories with my family.

I am itching to go on this years trip already!

I didn't know it was Leap Day until I saw some of my favorite bloggers post pictures of them jumping in honor of the day, so I thought I would join in on the fun.

Today has been for tests.  Lots of them.  I can't complain though, I get to study about Art Deco and Frank Llyod Wright. I really do love my major.

Here's to crazy jumping pictures and celebrating!

Furniture: a love story

I found this little green nightstand a couple of months ago on Craigslist for $20.  I loved the little nook for books and thought it would be perfect for the guest room.

The only thing I didn't love was the color.  No offense to those green lovers out there, obviously I have a green bed spread in the guest room, but I have found myself leaning towards a more modern look.  The bed spread will change. Don't tell Evan!

I waited for a sunny day and then convinced my manly man to power sand this little cutie. The plan was a fresh coat of white paint. While he power sanded I found a stamp on the inside drawer.

I googled the name and found out that Harmony House was a brand from Sears that existed from 1940-1968.  The brand was an interior decorating scheme that used colors that could be coordinated with each other.  Customers were provided a color wheel that was supplied in the catalog.  The whole home could be furnished according to colors.

What is kind of fun is that we were just learning about the Sears catalog in school and I didn't even know I had something from the catalog in my own home! I have always loved the Sear's Homes and find the whole idea of ordering a home through a catalog so fascinating.

After I found out what the stamp meant, the game changed for the nightstand and I wanted to restore the entire night stand.  Then I realized that it required a lot of sanding and would be really hard to get in the cute nook.  So this is what we came up with!

Evan sanded the top and the drawer and then I stained it.  I really love how it turned out!  I wish I knew what it originally looked like and what year it was made, but am happy with the result.

I really love old furniture.  It is fun when you have a house full of pieces that have some kind of story.

Our coffee table is an old rail road cart that our friend Blake restored.  I don't know how many times I told him I would pay double for it.   Eventually I gave up.
The night Evan and I opened up our wedding gifts there was a card from Blake and his brother Kyle.  In the card was a picture of the cart saying it was ours.  I cried. It was so sweet and I will love it forever.  Whenever I see it I always think of our dear friends.

I guess I have a really intense love for furniture. I think it is in my blood. I am happy to add a new story to my home! Do you have a piece of furniture that has a story? I would love to hear it!!

My craft room/spare bedroom finally has a fresh new coat of bright white paint on her!  It took four days to paint the walls, doors, and trim.  After finishing my room I now have a huge summer project. Painting all the dingy trim in our house. Yikes!

Mr. Bovee joined me for the first day of painting the walls.  It ended in a paint fight (of course) before he threw in the towel to go work on a guitar.  That boy sure does have a lot of projects.

I now have another project sitting and waiting in my room to be finished. It's a little nightstand that needs some serious tlc after a funky color choice.  I am slowly choosing art for the room and am saving my pennies for a trip to Ikea in March.  I am over the moon about having a place to call my own!

Snow day

Lately I have been feeling a little worn out.  It could be the cold weather or school, but whatever the reason I felt like Eeyore. I woke up Monday to a couple of inches of snow and decided the heck with classes and declared it a snow day.

I slept in with Evan, finished painting my craft room, listened to new music, and practiced guitar. It really was the break I needed. Just a day to create what I wanted to, lounge in pjs and laugh with my husband.

Sometimes it's just good to slow down, throw responsibility on the back burner and enjoy a day just for you!

V-day B-day

Two of my best friends have birthdays a week apart from each other.  They are also toward the end of January.  So what better way to celebrate then a Valentines themed birthday party, or as we nick named it "b-day v-day."

I threw some paper hearts on the windows, made some sweets, and topped it off with shirley temples.

There were also birthday doughnuts. It was a great evening!

Evan came home Friday and we have been getting back into the swing of things. I've got him for another month until he goes on tour which means lots of honey do projects! This weekend we have a hot date involving my craft room and a gallon of paint!
